Car Wax On Painted Furniture

I ve got a piece of furniture i d like to try using home made chalk paint on and want to seal it but find it a bit expensive to buy annie sloane s chalk paint wax or other such specialized waxes so i m wondering if using turtle wax car wax would work as it can also be used for other things around the house.
