I ve got a piece of furniture i d like to try using home made chalk paint on and want to seal it but find it a bit expensive to buy annie sloane s chalk paint wax or other such specialized waxes so i m wondering if using turtle wax car wax would work as it can also be used for other things around the house.
Car wax on painted furniture.
Ultimately the reason furniture wax is sold as the topcoat of choice for wax and milk paints is that unlike poly it will settle down into the porous paint finish and cure up over time.
Use darker wax on darker pieces which will help you polish it and hide any minor flaws.
When the wax hardens it seals the painted surface with a lovely natural looking soft sheen.
Whether in paste or liquid form car wax is formulated to fill scratches and give a high shine to nonporous surfaces like glass and metal while protecting them from smudges and stains.
There are a lot of types of wax you can use.
Paste wax will make a wood piece shinier because it fills in digs and other crevices.
They ll last a lot longer with the added protection of the wax which could save you a lot of money over time.
It s handy in other ways too so grab a lint free cloth and get to work.
With the growing popularity of chalk and milk painted furniture wax has become a super popular topcoat.
Now that s not to say that automotive paint for furniture is the best option out there because it does have some drawbacks.
If the paint isn t fully hardened or cured you could see the paint scratch chip or peel more easily.
But not furniture wax.
The best use for paste wax is to maintain and care for your furniture.
I tried car wax on a painted dresser makeover.
In my last post i wrote about my garden fresh pea friend maran.
When scratched it won t flake off in big chunks like poly because in essence it becomes part of the paint s finish.
Car paint on furniture is a great option if you re looking for an ultra high gloss coating that dries lightning fast and is as hard as nails.
Because someone once told me it works great they had tried it and wax is wax.
Apply a coat of car wax to metal plastic or molded furniture to protect and add shine.
Paint wax is a sealer that keeps the elements out and also doesn t allow the paint to breathe so you could effect the durability of your paint job if you seal it up before the 30 90 day window.
For one it stinks to high heaven and is loaded with dangerous chemicals so the proper respiratory gear and ventilation is an absolute must.
Run away from people like that.
