700c wheels seem to look oversized on some xs bikes i ve seen whereas 26 wheels would be much more in proportion. I have a nice spare 26 wheel set. Unless the bike was specifically designed for a wheel size conversion like the 18 20 prodigy from hoffman in 2003 or so changing the wheel size is generally not a safe and practical option. You could maybe actually get 26 on if you went from a 2 wide knobbie to a 1 or 1 1 4 tire they are not only narrower but smaller all around but you would still have brake issues.
