The key is prepping it correctly and using the right primer. Allow the first coat to dry for 1 2 hours. Painting wood veneer is not hard. This should be done with wood filler.

If you re opting for a light color you ll need to apply two coats at minimum and you may need more to achieve the desired effect. This first coat will not provide full coverage but that is not a problem. Staining or painting wood veneer is no different from staining or painting any wood in that you first must fill in any chips or cracks. Then rinse with fresh water and dry the cabinets completely.

Wood veneer is created when very thin slices of wood usually less than 1 8 inch thick are glued on to wood panels or particle board. The first coat of paint will act as a primer coat. Only paint in a well ventilated area. If you ve chosen a dark color you may need about four coats of paint.

Apply at least two coats of your chosen paint to the veneer surface painting over the dried primer.
