Turn on a garden hose to its most powerful setting and run water through the drain pipe.
Bypass my in ground gutter drain.
For the garage i used a downspout adapter without a leaf guard since there aren t trees close enough for that gutter to get clogged up.
Another quick tip when installing the underground gutter extension tubing is to use lots of perforated pipe once you re away from the house so the water can drain as it moves down the tube.
When leaves lay on the screens they create a flat mat of sticky debris which also aids to stop the water from entering the gutter and cause it to bypass the gutters altogether.
Disconnect the gutter downspout from where it connects to the drain pipe.
Since my in ground pipe ran right past the garage i had the garage downspout dump in as well.
The water simply drains into the ground at the end of the underground downspouts.
Pull the underground drain which is often a black corrugated plastic pipe away from the end of the downspout.
To do this i cut the black corrugated pipe added a t and aimed the pipe upwards to the downspout.
Place the end of a plumber s auger also known as a snake into the underground.
Remove the guard at the other end of the drain pipe if there is one.
